With the start of Donald Trump’s new presidency and farewell from the Obamas from office, the future of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign comes into question.
While the change of power is fairly recent, there is not much to be speculated about future plans regarding the 6-year-old initiative. “Let’s Go!” has had huge success solidifying corporate partnerships and implementing healthy lifestyles nationwide.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC , obesity rates for children between the ages of 2 and 5 decreased between 2003 and 2012, a clear statistic of apparent success. However, another glaring statistic is the fact that 1 in 3 American children are still overweight or obese.
Washington Post reports that Michelle Obama “hope they will yield lasting results”. There is an element of concern at the lack of future planning. Assuming that prior education and effect will carry on throughout the next presidency is alarmingly ignorant.
